$139 million windfall from Commonwealth in 2017–18

The sound economic stewardship of the Coalition Government has also delivered good conditions for the national economy. About 190,000 Canberrans will benefit from the income tax cuts announced in the budget on the back of this good management.

Today’s Commonwealth budget also revealed a massive windfall for the ACT Government in 2017–18.

In last year’s Commonwealth budget, the ACT Government was allocated $2.136 billion in national funding in 2017–18. Today’s Commonwealth budget estimates the ACT will have received $2.275 billion in 2017-2018. This is $139 million more than was expected last year.

The funding allocation for 2018–19 in today’s budget is in line with last year’s estimate.

Today’s budget also confirms the Commonwealth will deliver $200 million for much-needed upgrades to the Monaro and Barton Highways. This is very good news for commuters who regularly use these highways.

The Canberra Liberals will examine the Commonwealth budget in more detail over the coming days.
