The Canberra Liberals have announced a range of measures to support Canberra’s multicultural community. Multiculturalism has played an important part in the making of modern Canberra and has been integral to cultivating inclusion and social cohesion, Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Giulia Jones said today.
The Canberra Liberals package to support the ACT’s multicultural community includes:
$200,000 for a Community Development Grants Program, which will fund multicultural projects across the ACT area.
Facilitating land release for multicultural groups by reducing barriers in releasing land to be used as religious or multicultural building sites.
$60,000 for additional child minding support to ensure women from non-English backgrounds are able to attend English language classes.
“We are dedicated to a whole of Government approach to the participation of all Australians from all cultural backgrounds in all areas of society in Canberra,” Mrs Jones said.
“Approximately 25 per cent of our population are born overseas and thousands of international students are coming here to study each year. We are also home to over 90 diplomatic missions and embassies, adding to our diverse community,” Mrs Jones concluded.
“The Canberra Liberals are proud of our multicultural history and the diversity of our city, and we recognise that appreciation through the initiatives we have announced today,” Mr Hanson concluded.
