DESPERATE MESSAGES DEMONSTRATE CRISIS AT CANBERRA HOSPITAL

Text messages that show the desperate state of the Canberra Hospital and the terrible conditions that staff and patients are subjected to, have been revealed, Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Health Jeremy Hanson said today.

“These 16 text messages from management to staff show the constant pressure doctors and nurses are under to discharge patients because of overcapacity at the hospital. Many of the patients that staff are being forced to discharge, I suspect, may not be ready to leave the hospital,” Mr Hanson said.

“This is what things have come to over 15 years of ACT Labor and Greens neglect in the Canberra Hospital and what happens when $96 million is cut from the Hospital.

“It’s a hospital that is struggling with capacity and has staff run off their feet and being put in unfair situations, because Andrew Barr and Shane Rattenbury thought it would be better to spend money of trams.

“The number one priority of Hanson led Canberra Liberals Government will be fixing the health system. We will fund the $395 million redevelopment of the Canberra Hospital that Labor promised before shifting the money to trams. We will build two new Local Public Hospitals in Gungahlin and Tuggeranong.

“These text messages show the sad state of health under ACT Labor and the Greens. With Andrew Barr set to spend $14 billion on trams, you can be sure things won’t improve unless there’s a Canberra Liberals Government,” Mr Hanson concluded.
