On the day of his State of the Territory address, Andrew Barr needs to front up to Canberrans over the chaotic shutdown of the Canberra Hospital, Shadow Minister for Health Vicki Dunne said today.
“As the Chief Minister glorifies himself with his address, the reality of our health system is on full display. A decade and a half of neglect and under-investment has resulted in the closure of much of the Canberra Hospital, putting Canberrans in danger,” Mrs Dunne said.
“The switchboard failure today, which has resulted in the closure of outpatient services and elective surgeries, has come about because ACT Labor doesn’t value health and the safety of Canberrans.
“I commend the staff of the Canberra Hospital. All of the doctors and nurses who have the welfare of patients at heart should be congratulated for their work during this crisis.
“What we cannot forgive however, is the maladministration of the ACT Labor government, which has allowed the Canberra Hospital to get to the point where it cannot function,” Mrs Dunne concluded.
