Today’s complete reversal on property tax cuts from Andrew Barr sends a clear message to voters that he cannot be trusted on tax reform, ACT Shadow Treasurer Brendan Smyth said today.
“Three months ago Andrew Barr told the property industry he would waive fees he was charging to begin and complete building jobs,” Mr Smyth said.
“Today, he’s reneged on that promise.
“This complete breach of trust should send a very clear message to voters: Andrew Barr cannot be trusted to tell the truth about tax reform.
“The property industry needs confidence in government, not lies.
“Voters also need to trust the Treasurer to tell the truth about the tax reforms they’ll pay for.
“After this latest blunder, how can anyone seriously believe Andrew Barr when he says he won’t triple rates?
“The mathematics speak for themselves and it’s quite clear that Andrew Barr can’t be trusted on tax reform.
“Andrew Barr’s already lied to the property sector, how long until his lies to ratepayers are exposed?” Mr Smyth concluded.
