Canberra Liberals force government action on dodgy Manuka land swap

After sustained pressure from the Canberra Liberals and the community the Barr government has finally moved to resolve the bungled Manuka land swap saga, Shadow Minister for Education Steve Doszpot said today.

“While the government refused to back the Canberra Liberals’ plan for a resolution, some clarity has been provided for the Telopea Park School community and the Manuka Occasional Childcare Centre (MOCCA),” Mr Doszpot said.

“The government has agreed that the site lease for the Telopea Park tennis courts is returned to the school community, so hopefully they won’t be bulldozed. The government has also agreed that MOCCA will not be moved until new facilities are constructed.

“The Canberra Liberals will continue to lobby for the Telopea Park School community and The MOCCA community because we know the government often has trouble following through on its commitments.

“If it wasn’t for the community’s resolve and the Canberra Liberals’ persistence on this issue, the Barr government would not have listened. I’m proud that some progress has been and I will continue to stand up for stakeholders and make sure they are listened to,” Mr Doszpot concluded.
