CANBERRA LIBERALS VOICE SUPPORT FOR ACT CATHOLIC AND INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS

The Canberra Liberals will fight for a funding model that supports ACT Catholic and Independent schools, Shadow Minister for Education Andrew Wall said today.
ACT Catholic and Independent schools will be left worse off by 2027 due to the Federal government’s proposed funding changes.
“Catholic and Independent schools will receive substantially less funding over the next ten years while other schools will receive marginal increases over the same period,” Mr Wall said.
“The flow on affect of this will drastically impact Canberra families looking for choice when it comes to the education of their children.
“A funding model that has an adverse impact on almost 40 per cent of ACT students is most definitely not a good deal for the ACT.
“The Canberra Liberals are committed to fighting for a funding model that values the enormous contribution that our local Catholic and Independent schools make to the ACT’s educational landscape.
“I call on ACT Labor to echo this commitment and ensure all students and parents get a fair go,” Mr Wall concluded.
