The Australian Government has today reappointed Senator Zed Seselja as Chair of the ACT Black Spot Consultative Panel.
Senator Seselja will work with a range of community and road user groups, industry members and government agencies to allocate funding under the Australian Government’s Black Spot Programme toward some of the most dangerous roads in the country.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said Senator Seselja had been a strong advocate for fixing black spots throughout the ACT.
“Zed’s experience in chairing this panel means he brings a depth of knowledge to the role that is invaluable,” Mr Chester said. “In his last term as Chair, Zed was able to secure record funding for the ACT under the Black Spot Programme for projects such as the new animal fencing and lighting on the Tuggeranong Parkway and intersection upgrades on Coulter Drive.”
“His commitment to creating safer roads for the people of the ACT and years of experience in working collaboratively with a broad cross-section of the community will also be invaluable in this role.
“With anyone able to nominate a Black Spot for funding, this appointment requires working with the community, industry, and the state government to determine which projects should be funded.
“I am looking forward to working with Zed and the rest of the Panel as we deliver a safer national road network.” Minister Chester said.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity once again to advocate for safer roads for Canberra families and I look forward to working with residents, community groups, and local stakeholders to make sure funds from the Black Spot Programme go to the projects our city needs.” Senator Seselja said.
The Australian Government has committed $500 million to the Black Spot Programme over five years to 2018-19, which includes an additional $200 million over two years from 2015-16 to improve road safety across the nation.
