Liberals to bring forward vote on financial transparency

The Canberra Liberals’ financial integrity legislation will be brought on for debate and a vote in the ACT Legislative Assembly today, Leader of the Opposition Alistair Coe said today.

“This short but important piece of legislation will give taxpayers a better understanding of how their money is being spent,” Mr Coe said.

“For too long, there has been doubt about when the ACT Government has bought property. This legislation brings openness to these transactions.

“The legislation will require:

  • all Government payments over $12,500 to be published;
  • all property purchases must be declared; and
  • all act of grace payments must be tracked in a register.

“The Canberra Liberals urge the Labor Party and the Greens to support this legislation,” Mr Coe concluded.
