PLANNING DIRECTORATE HAS NO PLANS FOR $4 MILLION SITE ACQUIRED BY GOVERNMENT

It has been revealed in Estimates Hearings that the Planning Directorate has no plans for the CFMEU headquarters in Dickson, despite the government paying $4 million for the site in 2014, Leader of the Opposition Alistair Coe said today.

“The fact that the Planning Directorate has no plans for the area begs the question, why the purchase was made? This needs to be cleared up by the government,” Mr Coe said.

“The government’s cosy relationship with certain developers, consultants and unions was on full display when a secret multi-million dollar purchase was made in December of 2014.

“The questionable deal involved contracts exchanging on December 16 and settlement occurring three days later on December 19. All this was in the first week of Andrew Barr becoming Chief Minister.

“The ACT Labor government has serious probity issues and the latest revelation that the Planning Directorate has no plans for the site demonstrates that this land deal needs further investigation, perhaps by a future ICAC,” Mr Coe concluded.
