Taxi industry deserves just compensation

ACT taxi plate owners who have been conned by the Labor-Greens Government deserve compensation on just terms.
Canberra Liberals Leader Alistair Coe and Shadow Transport Minister Candice Burch will meet with the ACT Taxi Plate Owners Association who have experienced a great injustice at the hands of the Labor-Greens Government.
By devaluing taxi licenses, the ACT Government has destroyed the life savings of perpetual taxi plate owners.
“The Canberra Liberals acknowledge the injustice experienced by ACT taxi plate owners who have invested millions with the ACT Government to operate in a regulated industry,” Canberra Liberals Leader Alistair Coe said.
“The government has broken faith with ACT taxi plate owners who are now looking for justice and a fair go.
“The Canberra Liberals recognise the valuable contribution of taxi drivers in the ACT. That’s why today we are committing to compensate taxi plate owners on just terms, if elected.
“Fairly compensating ACT taxi plate owners is a step toward restoring good order and justice in the ACT,” Mr Coe said.
Shadow Transport Minister Candice Burch said just compensation would help alleviate the financial and emotional stress experienced by ACT taxi plate owners.
“ACT taxi plate owners are everyday Canberrans who in good faith invested in a government regulated industry,” Miss Burch said.
“ACT taxi plate owners and their families deserve justice,” Miss Burch said.
Mr Coe and Miss Burch will be available for comment at the ACTTPOA-led public rally at Civic Square from 1pm – 2pm.
