A Canberra Liberals Government will freeze rates

A Canberra Liberals Government will freeze residential rates in our first Territory Budget, Canberra Liberals Leader Alistair Coe has announced.
“No household will pay higher rates in the first term of a Canberra Liberals Government,” Mr Coe said.
“Since 2012, the Labor-Greens Government has assured Canberrans that tax reform would not triple rates because reform would be revenue neutral.
“In reality, rates revenue has more than doubled and is set to triple.
“In 2016, the Labor-Greens Government doubled its rates revenue to $423 million, up from $209 million in 2012. In 2021, rates will more than triple to $652 million and keep growing the year after to $698 million.
“The government is doing this at a time when its total revenue will soon pass a record-breaking $7 billion.
“And yet, people in every suburb of Canberra are hurting as a result of Labor’s rates rip-off.
“We now have 27,000 Canberrans who are living below the poverty line and many more who are struggling to make ends meet.
“That’s why a Canberra Liberals Government will freeze residential rates to give every Canberran much-needed relief.
“A rates freeze will help bring back predictability and security to so many household budgets,” Mr Coe said.
