Autism school a win for Canberra families

The Canberra Liberals are delighted that the AEIOU Foundation are finally coming to Canberra after years of being thwarted by successive Labor Governments, Shadow Minister for Education and Disability Elizabeth Lee said.

The Canberra Liberals first campaigned to bring an autism school to Canberra in 2012, having secured a generous funding commitment from the Ricky Stuart Foundation. Unfortunately, the Labor Government did not see the value in the project and prevented it from eventuating.

“I am so pleased that Canberra will finally be getting its own autism school. My only regret is that it is coming eight years late thanks to the stubborn refusal of ACT Labor to recognise the value of intervention programs.

“Many parents of children with autism have missed out on this valuable, intensive learning program.

“We believe an autism school will help many children reach their potential, and will support many Canberra families,” Ms Lee said.

Ms Lee congratulated the AEIOU Foundation and the John James Foundation on the important initiative.
