ACT Shadow Minister for Sport and Recreation Steve Doszpot has today criticised Andrew Barr’s lack of interest in this year’s Kanga Cup.
Mr Doszpot said he is confused as to why Andrew Barr has shown no interest in promoting the competition when it is sponsored by the ACT Government and supposedly part of the centenary celebration events.
“The Kanga Cup is the largest junior soccer tournament in the southern hemisphere and is an integral sporting event for Canberra’s soccer community,” Mr Doszpot said.
“The competition attracts visitors from all over the world and is a fantastic way to showcase our city’s attractions.
“It astonishes me that Andrew Barr, who is the Minister for both Tourism and Sport, could not even be bothered to turn up to the opening ceremony.
“The closing ceremony will be held tomorrow and I urge Andrew Barr to come along and show his support for this important international sporting event,” Mr Doszpot concluded.
