BARR GOVERNMENT BLOCKS KEY TO RENEWAL IN CIVIC AND TOWN CENTRES

Today the Barr government has arrogantly dismissed the Canberra Liberals plan to revitalise Civic and the town centres by voting against the removal of the prohibitive Lease Variation Charge (LVC), in the Legislative Assembly, Shadow Treasurer Brendan Smyth said today.

“There will be a clear contrast at the next ACT Election. It will be between the Canberra Liberals who are determined to drive revitalisation and renewal of our town centres and Andrew Barr who wants to keep the LVC, which will continue to stifle growth and redevelopment and keep home prices out reach for many,” Mr Smyth said.

“Our town centres are seriously struggling and Andrew Barr is denying them the oxygen to breathe again.

“The Canberra Liberals have committed to removing the LVC in Civic and our town centres for four years. Andrew Barr has now ruled out supporting the plan, so the only way to ensure this burden on development is removed is to have a Canberra Liberals government,” Mr Smyth concluded.
