Braddon and Turner residents endure more nights of construction noise

Transport Minister Meegan Fitzharris should apologise to Braddon and Turner residents forced to endure more sleepless nights filled with construction noise, Shadow Minister for Transport Candice Burch said.

Residents near Northbourne Avenue were told that from 21 September to 2 October, the government will be doing noisy, all-night construction works. The government has not offered residents any respite from the relentless noise.

“The noise standard for residential and group centres after 10pm is 35-45 decibels,” Miss Burch said.

“Northbourne Avenue residents have taken measurements showing the noise of up to 75 decibels in their apartments, as loud as having a vacuum cleaner running in the same room.

“This is what the Labor-Greens government expects Canberrans to just put up with.

“How are Braddon and Turner residents expected to function at work or school each day, when they’re getting little or no sleep every night?

“Individuals and businesses would never get away with making that level of noise all night. Yet the government thinks it’s ok to do it themselves. Residents deserve an explanation,” Miss Burch concluded.
