Canberra businesses doing it tough have been left in dark over what financial support is available to them.
It’s been more than five weeks since the ACT Government announced it’s so-called ‘survival package’ for businesses doing it tough yet few, if any, businesses have been told if they will receive a rates waiver.
Given many property owners have waived or reduced rent or are in discussions, an understanding of whether they will get a rates waiver or reduction is vital information.
The Leader of the Canberra Liberals Alistair Coe said businesses doing it tough should not have to wait this long for urgent help and clarity.
“The ACT Government is creating uncertainty by taking so long to say what properties will receive rates waivers, and from what date those waivers will be applied,” Mr Coe said.
“Many businesses doing it tough are reaching the point of no return. This is their make or break moment.
“We need to do absolutely everything we can to help local businesses survive the crisis and bounce back strongly.
“The jobs and livelihoods of so many Canberrans depend on it,” Mr Coe said.
