CANBERRA BUSINESSES STILL TAKE DIM VIEW OF BARR GOVERNMENT

Canberra’s small and medium businesses still have a negative view of the Barr government’s policies towards them despite a pickup in confidence, according to the latest Sensis Business Index August 2015 – Small and Medium Business Outlook released today, Shadow Minister for Business and Economic Development Brendan Smyth said today.

“This report again highlights that the Barr government is only making it harder for small and medium businesses to operate in the ACT. Support for the policies of the ACT government was -3 net,” Mr Smyth said.

“The report states:

The biggest gripes relate to the perceived favouring of big business and a lack of incentives for small business.

“So despite improved overall outlook, operators still see the Barr government as a hindrance not a help. Prohibitive taxes and regulations are stopping businesses from opening their doors and causing many that are running, to close.

“The fact is that the Barr government is more interested in the privileged elites and their CFMEU mates than they are about making it easier for hardworking small and medium businesses to operate in Canberra,” Mr Smyth concluded.
