Canberra Liberals Take Part In Relay For Life

This weekend Canberra Liberals MLAs and staff will take part in the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life at the AIS athletics track in Bruce. The success of this event grows every year and the team is looking forward to raising as much money as possible, Leader of the Opposition Jeremy Hanson said today.

“I have been taking part in Relay for Life for several years now and it has grown to become a major annual charity event in the Canberra. From humble beginnings in 2000 the event raised $39,000 but in 2012 it raised $420,000. I’m proud to be leading a team of around 30 to carry the baton again in 2014,” Mr Hanson said.

“The 24 hour event begins at noon tomorrow and runs for 24 hours through the night and until noon on Sunday. It’s certainly a recipe for fun with the festival atmosphere and entertainment and I’m looking forward to seeing all of the other teams out in force at the AIS.

“Relay for Life 2014 is a great way for the Canberra community to come together and raise much needed funds for cancer research. The Canberra Liberals team would be grateful for any donations for this wonderful cause,” Mr Hanson concluded.
