Celebrating ACT Exporters

A Canberra exporter could become Australia’s exporter of the year.

Entries have opened for the 55th Australian Export Awards program which celebrates the success of Australian products and services on the world stage.

Senator for the ACT, Zed Seselja, encouraged local exporters to enter.

“The awards highlight the international success of Australian companies based on export growth, marketing and financial strategies,” said Senator Seselja.

“I have met many local ACT businesses that are driving Australia’s successful transition to a post-mining boom economy, with many accessing new markets, and creating new local jobs.

“It would be great to see an ACT business crowned exporter of the year.”

Applicants are first judged in the ACT export awards program, with the winners progressing to become national finalists in the Australian Export Awards.

Applications are accepted in 12 national export award categories, which demonstrate the diversity of Australia’s export sectors, including Digital Technologies, e-Commerce, Health and Biotechnology, Regional Exporter and Small Business.

“Last year, ACT business iSimulate won the Education and Training category for their work in medical simulation technology. This recognition is a testament to the high calibre of exporters in the ACT and their ability to adapt and thrive in a changing global environment,” said Senator Seselja.

Australia’s exporters generate far-reaching benefits for the Australian economy. The 81 national finalists in the 2016 Australian Export Awards generated more than $12.3 billion in export sales in 2015–16 and employed more than 34,500 people.

The 55th Australian Export Awards program is co-presented by Austrade and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI). Visit www.exportawards.gov.au for more information and how to enter.
