Even more heavy lifting for Canberra ratepayers

Chief Minister Andrew Barr today confirmed that Canberra households will pay even more in rates every year under a Labor Government, Canberra Liberals Leader Alistair Coe said.
“The heavy lifting is not in the past. The heavy lifting now happens every single year,” Mr Coe said.
Under questioning from Canberra Liberals Leader Alistair Coe in Estimates hearings, Chief Minister Andrew Barr ruled out freezing residential rates, confirming rates will continue to rise to pay for Labor’s tax reform.
“It’s clear that under a Labor-Greens Government, Canberra households will do even more heavy lifting to pay for Andrew Barr’s tax reform,” Mr Coe said.
“So many Canberra households are already hurting from Labor’s extortionate rates rises and now Andrew Barr wants them to pay even more,” Mr Coe said.
The admission came barely hours after an ACT Government official agreed rates rises added to cost of living pressures.
“I represent people who are experiencing considerable distress because of cost of living pressures.
“The government knows rates rises are hurting people but they’re doing it anyway,” Mr Coe said.
