Fitzharris must account for inefficient health spending

Health Minister Meegan Fitzharris must explain why her government is incapable of running a well-oiled health system, despite having plenty of resources to do so, Shadow Health Minister Vicki Dunne said.
According to an Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report, the Canberra Hospital is the most expensive and the most inefficient in the country.
“Canberrans are pouring huge amounts of money into our health system, but Ms Fitzharris is not delivering results,” Mrs Dunne said.
“Our emergency department and elected surgery wait lists are among the worst in the nation, we cannot attract interstate health professionals because of the toxic work culture, nurses and patients are being assaulted, and the hospital infrastructure is so old, outdated and dodgy that, for example, wards are closed down and a lot of work is being outsourced.
“Ms Fitzharris fails to demonstrate that she takes these issues seriously. By all indication, she is quite happy to continue business as usual.
“Our nurses, doctors and hospital staff are hardworking and committed to Canberra patients even though they have so little backing from the government.
“I will be scrutinising this in great detail during annual reports on health tomorrow,” Mrs Dunne said.
