The ACT Labor-Greens Government needs to reprioritise health, Shadow Health Minister Vicki Dunne said.
“Minister for Health, Meegan Fitzharris, repeatedly assured the community that hospital emergency department waiting times were heading in the right direction when the truth is they have once again hit a new low,” Mrs Dunne said.
New data from ACT Health shows just 30 per cent of patients requiring urgent treatment were seen within the recommended time in hospital emergency departments from January to March this year.
“When it comes to hospital waiting times, there is very little that the Minister says that stacks up against the facts.
“ACT hospitals are under immense pressure, struggling to keep up with demand in old and ageing facilities.
“This comes at a time when the Labor-Greens Government is cashing in record revenue from ACT taxpayers who are not getting value for money.
“Ms Fitzharris’ ongoing neglect of the health system is the height of disrespect both to Canberrans who are paying for premium health services, and to our health staff who work painfully long hours with very little support,” Mrs Dunne said.
