FOI dump after two years of denying transparency

After two years of denying Canberrans access to critical documents relating to health services, the ACT Government finally released multiple documents under Freedom of Information laws, dumping them online overnight, Shadow Health Minister Vicki Dunne said today.

“This has been a monumental FOI stuff-up,” Mrs Dunne said.
“The documents were only uploaded to the FOI website on December 6 after I asked a question without notice in the Assembly on November 28.
“The Government has withheld these documents for more than two years. This flies in the face of democratic values.
“Clearly, the Government has tried to hold on to these documents for as long as it possibly could, hoping that burying its head would make the problem go away.
“Well, after questioning from the Canberra Liberals the Government has finally surrendered these documents.

“The delay has been breathtaking but I’m hardly surprised. This government is often seen to disregard democratic tenets, driven by its born to rule mentality,” Mrs Dunne concluded.
