From the President, John Cziesla

Flags across Canberra were at half-mast as a sign of respect for Steve Doszpot MLA

Dear members,

For my first weekly update I would like to start by thanking members for electing me as President at last week’s AGM. It is an honour and privilege to serve as President.

I am confident that with the capable team on management committee, the Division is in good hands.

I would like to take this opportunity to again pay tribute to our late MLA Steve Doszpot. The widespread condolences and genuine sadness at his passing highlights that we have lost a good man held in high esteem by all who met him. I first meet Steve when he was running as a candidate in the 2001 election and in the following years I came to know a man of integrity who was passionately dedicated to his community. Steve was passionate about pursuing causes to assist those who had been neglected or over looked by Government. Canberra is the poorer for his passing.

On behalf of all Canberra Liberals I extend our condolences to Maureen and their family.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

2018 will be a busy year. As I have mentioned at a number of branch meetings the creation of an additional Federal electorate offers an opportunity to revisit our branch structure and the way the party engages with members, as well as an additional opportunity for the Canberra Liberals to campaign for our values and our vision for the ACT.

I believe that the year ahead holds many opportunities for the Canberra Liberals to step up our campaigning against the Labor/Green agenda for our great city. I look forward to seeing you at a Party function or Branch meeting soon.

John Cziesla
