Government has no plan to protect nurses who are victims of crime

Canberra nurses and frontline health staff are victims of crime in the workplace, but Andrew Barr’s distracted and ego-driven government has no plan to keep them safe, Shadow Health Minister Vicki Dunne said.

There were 604 reported incidents of physical assault on nurses and frontline health staff in 2018-19, according to a government response to a question taken on notice.

“Physical assault is a crime,” Mrs Dunne said.

“Many nurses and health staff are victims of crime, but the Labor-Greens Government isn’t doing anything to keep them safe.

“The Government’s lack of respect for the selfless efforts of our health workers is reprehensible.

“Only the Canberra Liberals have plan to provide greater protections for frontline staff who are assaulted on the job,” Mrs Dunne said.
