Government inaction puts public safety at risk

The Barr Government’s failure to deliver basic services is putting public safety at risk, Liberal Member for Brindabella Nicole Lawder said.

Two trees that dropped branches and were blown over recently were reported to the Barr Government at least four months ago through the Fix My Street portal.

On April 10, 2019, Ms Lawder reported dead trees at Mortimer Lewis Drive Park, and a tree at risk of falling over on Erindale Drive. In recent storms, one of the trees blew over and the other lost branches.

“It was only a matter of time before these trees fell. It’s just lucky that nobody was hurt,” Ms Lawder said.

“One of the trees was in an area often visited by families with young children. The other fell onto a busy road. This is a public safety risk because falling trees could cause serious harm, or even death.

“It does makes you wonder how many other at-risk trees have been neglected by the Barr Government.

“Unfortunately, Labor’s poor record shows you can’t trust the Barr Government to deliver basic government services,” Ms Lawder said.
