Today the Canberra Liberals will call on Andrew Barr to terminate his Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding government contracts with unions, Leader of the Opposition Jeremy Hanson said today.
“This MOU grants unions like the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) huge power and influence over which contractors access ACT government work. It also gives unions the names, addresses and hours worked for anyone with a contract with the ACT government. For the sake of the government’s integrity the MOU needs to be ripped up,” Mr Hanson said.
“Today in the Assembly I’ll be calling on the government to:
Provide copies of any previous versions of the MOU.
Provide all reports or other documents given to Unions ACT under the current or previous versions of the MOU.
Provide all correspondence relating to the drafting, enforcement or operation of the MOU between the UnionsACT and the government.
Immediately terminate the operation of the MOU.
“If the details and correspondence regarding contractors vying for government work have been given to unions, the government should provide that information to the Assembly.
“We have repeatedly called for the Barr Labor government to cut ties with the CFMEU and this MOU confirms the inappropriate relationship.
“Andrew Barr needs to come clean on this MOU, tear it up, and, restore faith in his government,” Mr Hanson concluded.
