In Estimates today, Chief Minister Katy Gallagher said that she does not think internal audit reports should be published. This is contrary to the Federal Government which releases internal audit reports, and also contrary to the dozen audit reports which were released by Jon Stanhope when he was Chief Minister, said Member for Ginninderra Alistair Coe.
“Katy Gallagher has said that the public should not receive information which was formerly available through FOI,” Mr Coe said today.
“It is very disappointing that the Government thinks that information about the performance of the government should not be published. “On 23 June 2011, Katy Gallagher proclaimed a new era of ‘open government’ but what she has revealed is that this era of ‘open government’ is a sham and the Government is not open to scrutiny.
I believe that as a first principle information available to the Government should be made available for use by the community. (Katy Gallagher, 23 June 2011)
“When questioned why reports previously released where now blocked, Katy Gallagher replied if someone doesn’t like it they could appeal to ACAT.
“Under Katy Gallagher’s leadership, the ACT Labor Government is more interested in headlines and spin rather than accountability and spending taxpayers’ money wisely,” Mr Coe concluded.
