Keeping police, nurses and emergency workers safe on the job

Canberra’s police, hospital and emergency workers will be safer on the job under much-needed reforms to be debated in the Assembly this week.
The Canberra Liberals’ Crimes (Offences Against Frontline Community Service Providers) Amendment Bill 2019 will be brought forward for debate.
“Canberra’s frontline workers are at increasing risk of violence on the job. Assaults on police, nurses, doctors and paramedics have all gone up,” Mrs Jones said.
“Canberra suburbs are soft targets for crime and our hardworking police are being attacked trying to keep the community safe.
“We want to keep our frontline workers safe on the job,” Mrs Jones said.
The Crimes (Offences Against Frontline Community Service Providers) Amendment Bill 2019 elevates certain offences committed against frontline workers to an aggravated offence, increasing the maximum penalty.
