After a long and protracted debate over major changes to nature conservation laws, it’s good to see public consultation will become a theme of the revised legislation, Shadow Minister for Environment Nicole Lawder said today.
“The consultation process for the Nature Conservation Bill 2014 was criticised for inadequate engagement with various environmental stakeholders, so it’s good to strengthen the process, through amendments I’m presenting today,” Ms Lawder said.
“The impacts of the ACT’s nature conservation laws reach far and wide and many stakeholder groups have a strong interest and knowledge in the environment. It’s good that revised laws will take public views into account.
“I will continue to monitor the impact of this legislation and fight for a single nature conservation agency which the government has yet again today, ignored the calls of stakeholders to implement,” Ms Lawder concluded.
