ACT Opposition Leader Zed Seselja and ACT Shadow Sports Minister Steve Doszpot announced today that if elected, a Canberra Liberals Government will commit $500,000 to upgrade Greenway oval, and provide 300 new car parks within the oval grounds. Mr Seselja said Greenway oval is a hidden sporting gem in the ACT.
“Greenway oval was initially built to Olympic training standard for the 2000 Sydney Games, but after 11 years of neglect by ACT Labor, it hasn’t been maintained to the level that it should be,” Mr Seselja said.
“Clubs which use the oval have raised concerns about inadequate changing rooms, toilet blocks and storage spaces, makeshift canteen facilities, and limited opportunities for fundraising.
“The Canberra Liberals have listened, and if elected we’ll commit $500,000 to get Greenway oval back to its original standard, and provide an extra 300 car parks to benefit all Tuggeranong residents.
“This oval upgrade is above and beyond our $3.5 million sporting ground upgrades pledge, and the extra car parks are an important part of our plan to provide thousands more across Canberra,” Mr Seselja concluded.
Mr Doszpot said upgrading Greenway oval will help more families participate in important local sport.
“Today’s commitment will help many sporting clubs including the Tuggeranong Hawks, Tuggeranong Bushrangers, and Tuggeranong Tornadoes,” Mr Doszpot said.
“It’s on top of our plan to halve sports fees, and is an important part of our commitment to give Canberrans the local services they deserve with lower rates and charges.”
