Libs Announce Parking Plan

  • THOUSANDS MORE PARKING SPACES
  • AUDIT OF PARKING FACILITIES AND COSTS

ACT Opposition Leader Zed Seselja and ACT Shadow Urban Services Minister Alistair Coe announced today that if elected, a Canberra Liberals Government would provide thousands more parking spaces across the ACT and conduct an audit of all parking facilities and parking costs. Mr Seselja said the Canberra Liberals do not believe that Canberra motorists should be penalised with less car parks and higher costs.

“We understand that public transport isn’t an option for many Canberra families, particularly when they have children to drop off at different locations,” Mr Seselja said.

“That’s why a Canberra Liberals Government would provide thousands more parking spaces across the ACT, giving priority to town centres and park and ride facilities.

“We would also conduct an audit of all parking facilities, and revise parking codes,” Mr Seselja concluded.

Mr Coe said the ACT Labor Government is currently limiting parking supply to drive up prices and therefore government revenue.

“ACT Labor’s parking strategy states they will reduce the number of car spaces for every 10 city workers from eight to just five,” Mr Coe said.

“Already, we see the effects of ACT Labor’s manipulation of parking supply and pricing, with all day City parking going up 12.5 per cent this year.

“The Canberra Liberals are committed to giving Canberrans better basic services, and understand that future planning considerations will need to take into account the fact that many Canberrans need their cars,” Mr Coe concluded.
