Work on the new national office for the Department of Social Services (DSS) in Tuggeranong is only months away from completion.
Assistant Minister for Social Services and Senator for the ACT, Zed Seselja, yesterday toured the building to view the final stages of the interior fit-out, just two years since the first soil was turned to commence work.
“I worked hard to keep the Department of Social Services in Tuggeranong,” Assistant Minister Seselja said.
“Around 2,100 DSS staff will be accommodated in the new building, providing an important economic stimulus to the Tuggeranong area. I am passionate about ensuring our town centres remain strong, and as Assistant Minister for Social Services, I am very excited about the completion of DSS’s new home in Tuggeranong.”
“Strong employment keeps this area vibrant and ensures families can continue to invest in the area with certainty about employment.”
The 30,000 square metre building will include five floors of office space, and will improve green ratings and support collaborative ways of working at a lower cost to Government. The new building will deliver modern and flexible office accommodation that is compliant with the National Building Code and meets disability and accessibility standards. It will boast a 4.5 Green Star rating and a five-star NABERS rating.
“It’s great to see that the building we all envisaged at the start of this journey resembles closely what I’ve seen today. I’m excited for the department’s staff, and for the local community. This is the next step in what will see Tuggeranong remain an important economic town centre for Canberra,” Assistant Minister Seselja said.
The Department is committed to a presence in both the Tuggeranong and Woden Town Centres. DSS staff are expected to move in from September 2017 over a four to six week period.
