Senator Zed Seselja will today officially open the new refurbished administration area and learning centre at St Monica’s Primary School in Evatt.

Students and staff at St Monica’s will have full use of the administration area, staff facilities and learning centre.

Senator Seselja said the Australian Government provided $600,000 towards the new facilities.

‘I have visited St Monica’s a number of times over the past couple of years and I’m always so impressed by the quality of students and staff so today I’m particularly pleased to be joining the school to open their new facilities.

‘I have no doubt the new administration and learning areas will go some way towards helping current and future St Monica students learn more effectively,’ Senator Seselja said.

The Turnbull Government is providing record levels of school funding and funding will continue to grow in the future.

Total Commonwealth funding to all schools across the ACT will increase by $68.5 million, a 24.8% increase, from 2015–16 to 2019–20.

Commonwealth funding will be directed according to need and tied to evidence-based initiatives to support student achievement, such as improving literacy and numeracy, increasing engagement with STEM subjects and enhancing teaching quality.

As well as delivering increased funding for evidence-based programmes, the Government is also focusing on choice for schools.

‘While buildings alone do not make a great school, I hope students and staff will enjoy learning and be inspired by these new facilities,’ Senator Seselja said.

‘The Government is committed to improving the quality of our schools and equipping students with the skills they need to succeed.
