Senator the Hon Zed Seselja, Liberal Senator for the ACT, will today open the new Department of Social Services (DSS) headquarters that the Coalition Government has built in Tuggeranong.
“As options were being considered for the future of DSS I fought hard, as Senator for the ACT, to ensure that the Department would not be moved from the Tuggeranong town centre.
“We all know that the presence of government departments in our Town Centres is critical to maintaining the viability of our local small businesses. This is how Canberra was designed and I have fought to protect that.
“As a result our Government decided to keep the Department in Tuggeranong and invested $26.8 million to make that happen.
“Working with a significant $130m investment from the Cromwell Property Group has meant that DSS has a modern new headquarters being opened today on Soward Way.
“It’s great to see that the building we all envisaged at the start of this journey resembles closely what I’ve seen today. I’m excited for the department’s staff, and for the local community. This is the next step in what will see Tuggeranong remain an important economic town centre for Canberra” concluded Senator Seselja.
Thousands of DSS staff will be accommodated in the new building that covers five floors, incorporates a soaring 800m² glass atrium through the centre of the building, providing an abundance of natural light to each floor and 5-star Green Star as-built rating and a 4.5-star NABERS rating.
