Member for Brindabella Andrew Wall was successful yesterday in the Assembly in raising the focus of a fundamental core service to Canberra suburbs, Canberra footpaths.
A motion was moved in the Assembly late yesterday afternoon that noted the significant number of footpaths and shared paths in disrepair across the ACT, and the failure of the government to maintain and fix these paths. The motion called on the government to routinely publish a schedule of footpaths that are identified for repair.
“I am pleased to see the Minister has acknowledged that the lack of information available to residents in the suburbs about footpath maintenance,” Mr Wall said today.
“As a result of my actions, improvements will be made to the information that is currently available to the public.
“While this move will not see every footpath in need of repair fixed, I am pleased to see a more transparent approach to the issue.
“It is disappointing that ACT Labor has failed to maintain the basic services that people expect from their local government,” Mr Wall concluded.
