The Women’s Legal Centre ACT will receive $1.05 million in funding for the delivery of a new unit to help women experiencing domestic violence in the ACT region. This very good news for women in Canberra, Shadow Minister for Women Giulia Jones said today.
“There is no doubt that this is a genuine area of need and given that Women’s services in Canberra have only been reduced under the ACT Labor government, I am very pleased to see that the Prime Minister has provided such a significant financial injection to help vulnerable women in our city.” Mrs Jones said.
“The $1.05 million will be delivered over three years and is part of the Australian Government’s $100 million package to respond to family and domestic violence by enhancing the safety of women.
“The ACT Women’s Legal Centre ACT, has a strong record of providing high quality services for women experiencing domestic violence. The extra funding will help them establish a new unit that will help women from the crisis point though to sustainable safety.
“This is the sort of funding that can make a massive difference to the lives of women in need. I’m looking forward to further improvements to Women’s services in the ACT in the future.” Mrs Jones concluded.
