Zed Joins R U OK? Conversation Mate Campaign

Senator for the Australian Capital Territory, and R U OK? Ambassador, Zed Seselja, will join the R U OK? Conversation Bus Tour for its final journey from Canberra to Sydney following the community event at Marist College Canberra this morning. The tour is about inspiring and encouraging Australians to sign up to be a Conversation Mate and to regularly ask their family and friends “are you ok?”

“I’m proud to be supporting the Conversation Mate campaign and R U OK? Day. It is also great that I will be joined at this morning’s event by my parliamentary colleague and fellow Ambassador Ed Husic MP as it is important to put political alignments aside for awareness campaigns such as Conversation Bus tour,” Senator Seselja said today.

The Conversation Bus Tour was launched in Darwin by the Minister for Indigenous Affairs, the Hon Nigel Scullion MP on the 6th of August 2014. Since the launch, the R U OK? bus has travelled around the country holding community events in 16 different Australian cities. Today’s event will be hosted by Marist College Canberra and will include a community BBQ, games and presentations from both Senator Zed Seselja and Ed Husic MP.

“Anybody can sign up to be a Conversation Mate at today’s event or online at ruokday.com. By becoming a Conversation Mate you will receive conversation tips and reminders throughout the year to help you keep in mind that simply asking the question, “are you ok?” could make a big difference to someone’s day,” said Senator Seselja.

“Suicide is devastating for individuals, families and communities. The Federal Government is working with communities and stakeholders to raise awareness of suicide risk, to help those at risk of taking their own lives and to assist those bereaved by suicide,” Senator Seselja concluded.

Today’s community event will be held at Marist College Canberra from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
