$5 MILLION IN NEW FACILITIES FOR STUDENTS AT SIX ACT SCHOOLS

Senator for the ACT Zed Seselja today announced six local schools will benefit from new and improved learning facilities thanks to Liberal-National Government grants.

Senator Seselja said the Liberal-National Government would provide more than $5 million towards the projects through the Capital Grants Program, which provides funding for non-government schools to improve capital infrastructure.

The successful ACT grants are:

  • $499,952 for a science laboratory and photography darkroom at Blue Gum Community School in Hackett
  • $1 million for a new middle school design hub building at Burgmann Anglican School Forde Campus
  • $948,914 for a new senior secondary building at Communities@Work Galilee School in Kambah
  • $986,600 for the refurbishment of three learning areas and new open learning spaces at Emmaus Christian School in Dickson
  • $585,722 for the refurbishment of three classrooms and a new classroom at Holy Trinity Primary School in Curtin; and
  • $1 million for a new multipurpose hall at the Islamic School of Canberra in Weston.

“These new and improved facilities will further enhance the learning environments for students across the ACT and benefit their school communities,” Senator Seselja said.

“Students and teachers thrive when their schools have modern and up-to-date facilities – that’s why the Liberal-National Government is proud of the Capital Grants Program, which has benefited thousands of schools across the nation.”

“These projects are being fast-tracked to help support local schools, create jobs, and drive economic growth, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are delivering real, needs-based funding that is matched by national reforms that will drive better results and outcomes.”

“This funding builds on more than $1 billion in new investments announced in the ACT by the Liberal-National Government in the past two years, boosting our Canberra economy,”

“I congratulate these Canberra schools on their successful grant applications and look forward to seeing the positive impact that the new and improved facilities will have on students and our community.”
