Labor & the Greens talk a big game when it comes to bus commuters, but they don’t back it up with action, Shadow Minister for Transport Mark Parton said today.

After years of spruiking a new transport ticketing system, the Labor-Greens Government has today revealed that they’re back to square one.

“The government started talking about this new ticketing system during the 2016 election and set funding aside in the 2017 budget, promising to replace the ‘outdated’ MyWay system,” Mr Parton said.

“Labor and the Greens say they want to get more people using the network, but this tells me they really don’t care.

"The ticketing upgrade has been on the agenda since 2016, and a contract was promised to be awarded by mid-2020.

“Now, the Minister has admitted that the behind-closed-doors negotiations with one provider has failed and will start the whole process again with an open tender process.

“The deadline for delivery has been pushed back to 2023, some seven years after it was first promised.” Mr Parton said.

In less than 100 days since the election, the Labor-Greens Government have broken a number of promises including:

• rates increases for over 60,000 households, more than double what was initially disclosed before the election;
• further delays to the expansion of the Canberra Hospital by at least two years; and
• the construction timeline for Light Rail Stage 2 pushed back beyond 2021.

“This is just the latest addition to a growing list of broken promises and more delays,” Mr Parton concluded.
