Little progress has been made on a long-awaited upgrade of the Kippax Fair shopping centre in West Belconnen, despite repeated promises from the Labor-Greens Government.

The upgrade, which has been on the agenda since at least 2014, has failed to commence due to a number of outstanding community concerns.

Liberal MLA for Ginninderra, Peter Cain, said progress of the redevelopment has stalled as the government’s design and consultation process is yet to demonstrate widespread community support for the project.

“Many local residents have expressed their concerns to me regarding a lack of progress,” Mr Cain said.

“I’m not convinced enough work has been done by the Labor-Greens Government to address the permanent removal of a skatepark, limited parking access, increases in traffic safety, and the loss of green spaces.

“It is critical that we get the planning process right, that local resident’s voices are heard, and their concerns are taken seriously,” Mr Cain concluded.

The Community Engagement Report for the Kippax Group Centre Master Plan is unclear about critical details of the government’s plan and does not establish if sufficient community support for the redevelopment of Kippax Fair exists.

Considering outstanding community concerns on the planned upgrades, Mr Cain is encouraging residents to provide him with their feedback and views on the project.
