Labor, Greens refuse to consult West Belconnen on relocation of the Parkwood green waste centre

Despite committing to “Improving community consultation and involvement in the development of Canberra” Labor and the Greens have continued to ignore the residents and businesses of West Belconnen.

When questioned by local Liberal members Elizabeth Kikkert and Peter Cain, on whether the Government would consult with West Belconnen residents and businesses on the relocation of the Parkwood green waste centre – Minister Chris Steel refused to make any firm commitment to do so and was vague on its future.

“Having a free, nearby, green waste centre is a must for the residents of leafy West Belconnen,” said Mrs Kikkert.

“Green bins, while very welcome, are not always sufficient for a resident’s leaf litter and lawn clippings, especially during Autumn.

“This will negatively affect Belconnen residents by increasing their financial burden and necessitating longer travel”

Liberal MLA Peter Cain expressed his disappointment at the refusal of Labor and the Greens to consult residents and businesses in West Belconnen.

“Yet again, this Government has failed to stand up for West Belconnen. Residents and businesses are tired of being ignored by Labor and the Greens,” Mr Cain said.

“The relocation of the Parkwood green waste centre will have a significant impact on residents and businesses in West Belconnen. Their views on this important community concern must be considered.”
