The Morrison Government is investing $141,000 for four projects across the Australian Capital Territory to upgrade infrastructure and facilities under the Australian Government’s $20 million Recreational Fishing and Camping Facilities Program.

Senator for the ACT Zed Seselja said the four new projects were aimed to improve facilities for the recreational fishing and camping community in the ACT.

“These new projects at the Blue Range Campground, Cotter Campground and Pine Island will see improvements to facilities such as toilet blocks, campground entrance and traffic overflow areas, washdown stations and showers,” Minister Seselja said.

“We’re blessed in Canberra to have access to some of the best walks and trails in our backyard, and new and renewed infrastructure and access will help holidaymakers and Canberrans alike to enjoy the serenity of some of our best fishing and camping spots.

“It’s just another reason to encourage tourists, family and friends to come and visit our beautiful Territory for their next holiday.”

Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management David Littleproud said the Recreational Fishing and Camping Facilities Program would deliver $20 million nationally over three years.

“This program will deliver new and renewed infrastructure for our recreational fishing and camping community,” Minister Littleproud said.

“Through the National Partnership for Streamlined Agreements, the program delivers our 2019 election commitment for more fishing opportunities for all Australians.”

Assistant Minister for Forestry and Fisheries Jonno Duniam said recreational fishing and camping contributes to the health and well-being of many Australians and provides significant benefits to regional areas.

“Recreational fishing is an important leisure activity that contributes economic and social benefits to the Australian community, and is a part of life for Australians of all ages and from all socio-economic backgrounds,” Assistant Minister Duniam said.

“Improving facilities and access to recreational fishing and camping areas will provide locals and visitors alike with better opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.”
