Shadow Minister for Regulatory Services Peter Cain is calling on the Labor-Greens Government to properly resource Access Canberra as it re-opens following the lockdown.
Mr Cain said Access Canberra is a critical government service that has been offering limited services during COVID-19 and it comes as no surprise Canberrans would need to go in for face-to-face transactions.
“What is surprising is the Labor-Greens government did not anticipate this basic service delivery requirement and provide Access Canberra with the resources and staff they need to meet demand,” Mr Cain said.
“This situation is challenging for Access Canberra staff, and they should be supported as much as possible as they return to business as usual.
“We’ve heard reports of Access Canberra staff members providing water and sunscreen to people waiting in long queues for hours. This is placing them under unnecessary stress.
“I’m calling on the minister to address this situation immediately by ensuring Access Canberra is properly resourced,” concluded Mr Cain.
