Labor-Greens Government admits elective surgery shortfalls

The Labor-Greens Government has today admitted they are not meeting their own elective surgery targets, resulting in more Canberrans waiting much longer than they should for elective surgery.

The Health Directorate’s Annual Report reveals that the Labor-Greens Government fell nearly 800 patients short of their own elective surgery targets in 2020-21.

“Hundreds of Canberrans are waiting longer for elective surgeries under this Labor-Greens Government,” Shadow Health Minister Leanne Castley said.

“The Health Minister has tried to spin their elective surgery shortfall as a win but it’s far from one.

“Nearly 800 Canberrans are waiting longer than clinically recommended for elective surgeries, and it’s not good enough.

“Our frontline healthcare workers are under resourced and understaffed, and they deserve better from this Labor-Greens Government” Ms Castley concluded.
