The ACT Labor-Green government will once again fail to meet its land release targets for this financial year while Canberrans suffer through a housing crisis.
Canberra Liberals Leader Elizabeth Lee said not only is the Labor-Greens government deliberately restricting the release of land in the ACT but it is also continually failing to meet low targets set by themselves.
“This is a government that failed to meet their own land release targets for detached housing in the last two years and it appears they won’t meet it again this year,” Ms Lee said.
“While Canberrans are faced with a median house price of over $1 million and the highest rents in the country, we have a Labor-Greens Government that has its head in the sand.
“Labor and the Greens are wedded to an infill policy that will see 70 per cent of Canberrans pushed into high rise apartment towers with the dream of owning a home out of reach for so many.
“The Canberra Liberals have put forward a number of solutions to help ease the housing crisis in the ACT while the Labor-Greens government refuse to even acknowledge there is a problem.
“Instead, they are wilfully ignoring the crisis they have created whilst many struggling Canberrans are deprived of any real choice when it comes to housing options in the ACT,” Ms Lee concluded.
