Canberra Liberals Leader Elizabeth Lee has welcomed the decision by the ACT Integrity Commission to investigate a series of contracts awarded by the CIT to one contractor.
“Many Canberrans are rightly concerned about these contracts and I welcome the Integrity Commissioner’s decision to undertake an investigation into this issue,” Ms Lee said.
“Minister for Skills, Chris Steel has failed to be open and transparent about what he and the Chief Minister knew, when they knew and why they failed to discharge their ministerial responsibilities, allowing further contracts worth millions of taxpayer funds to be signed.
“A number of current and former CIT staff have come forward since this issue was exposed and just yesterday I raised serious concern about the promotion of current Deputy Chair to Chair from next month despite the Deputy Chair having been on the board presiding over many of these contracts.
“I hope the Integrity Commission’s investigation will allow a comprehensive, independent review into these serious issues and we see an outcome in the best interests of the staff, students and the CIT going forward,” Ms Lee concluded.
