Canberrans continue to be denied access to new land as thousands miss out at Macnamara land ballot

The most recent land ballot at Macnamara has seen 7,400 applications for just 51 blocks, further highlighting the significant demand for stand alone housing in the ACT, not being met by the ACT Labor-Greens government.

Canberra Liberals Leader Elizabeth Lee has continually called on the Labor-Greens government to address the housing crisis in the ACT by pulling the levers it has available, including adequate land supply.

“Through the Labor-Greens government deliberately restricting the release of land in the ACT, Canberrans are not being provided the choice they deserve when it comes to housing,” Ms Lee said.

“Again, we see 7,400 people competing for just 51 blocks of land which clearly indicates there is not enough being provided in the ACT.

“Canberrans want and deserve choice when it comes to housing options but at the moment the dream of owning a home is slipping away for so many because labor and the greens have no interest in providing that genuine choice.

“We know the government’s 70 per cent infill agenda is designed to push Canberrans into apartments however land release ballots over the last 12 months indicate that is not want the community wants.

“I have continually called on the government through a number of motions to address the housing crisis in the ACT but time and time again members of Labor and the Greens have voted against taking action,” Ms Lee concluded.
