Transport Minister once again fails to deliver new ticketing system

Shadow Minister for Transport Mark Parton has slammed the Labor-Greens government and Minister Chris Steel for once again failing to deliver a new ticketing system for Canberra’s public transport network.

“When I asked Minister Steel in October last year, he said with confidence the government would have procured a system by the end of the financial year,” Mr Parton said.

“He gave me the exact same answer when I asked in March this year. Well, the financial year is over and once again, it is nowhere to be seen.

“This project has been delayed and fallen through so many times that I wonder if the Minister is even serious about delivering this project for Canberrans.”

Mr Parton said the Labor-Greens government first promised an upgrade back in 2017 when Meegan Fitzharris was minister. Following that failure to deliver Minister Steel then promised the procurement process would be finished in the middle of 2020.

“Canberrans are crying out for a new public transport ticketing system, and we are now five years on since it was first promised by this government.

“We know the Labor-Greens government can’t manage money, can’t deliver services, and can’t keep promises. This is just another example of the government and Transport Minister letting Canberrans down,” Mr Parton concluded.
